Challenge
EPSS is a patient association supporting people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Estonia. A visual identity was needed that could simultaneously convey the organization's two core aspects: medical credibility and human warmth. While the association lacks the resources of a pharmaceutical company, this does not mean its branding had to look amateurish. In addition to the visual identity, a functional website was required to serve members, donors, and those newly diagnosed with the condition.
Solution
At the heart of the logo is an abstract S-shaped symbol suggesting two nested circles—a metaphor for endless support and community. The purple and orange color combination represents the internationally recognized colors of the IBD community, making EPSS instantly recognizable even in a broader context. The design is mature and professional, rather than clinical.
The brand identity was applied to a complete stationery set, including letterhead, envelopes, business cards (in both light and dark versions), a notebook, a keychain, and stickers. The dark version of the business card conveys a high-end, modern image, distinguishing EPSS from the typical aesthetic of non-profit organizations.
The website (ibd.ee) is designed around user needs: someone newly diagnosed must be able to quickly find information about the disease, a member needs to find support and the forum, and a donor needs to understand why this is important.
Result
EPSS now has a professional visual identity that gives the organization the credibility required for supporting IBD patients.
